Fun and Learning at CHLC

Afterschool Hands

Afterschool Projects

This is your time to show your children that you are excited about what they are learning at school! No better way to continue their learning than to bring it into your home and spend time with your kids!

Pumpkin Spice Playdough

Great way to talk about the smells and colors of fall. Also, have your child measure the ingredients for you! For our youngest kiddos, this is a great sensory activity - smells, texture etc.

Create an Emergency exit plan

In case of a fire or some other emergency. Draw a map of your house. Talk about how to get out and where you will meet up. Check your smoke detectors together and talk about how to get out of the house if it's filled with smoke. This is also a great opportunity to teach your preschool aged child your phone number in the event of any type of emergency and you aren't there. Of course teaching them 9-1-1 and making sure they know where to find a phone if you don't have a home phone.

Carve a pumpkin together!

Let them help you clean out the pumpkin while you do the carving. They can pick the design though! Easy "Sugar and Spice Roasted Pumpkin Seeds" Recipe for the pumpkin seeds you clean out!

Circletime Fun!

You hear it all the time, "During Circle Time We...." "At circle time we....." Here's what we are talking, singing, and learning about at circle time this month!

For Preschool and Older - Talk about Fire Safety and read a book that discusses Fire Safety or Community Helpers.

Everyday we review our Letters and letter sounds, Numbers, Days of the week (Have you heard the days of the week song? It's pretty catchy!), We talk about what day TODAY is, what day YESTERDAY was, and what day TOMORROW will be to teach the concept of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. We review our shapes talking about how many sides they have, are all the sides equal in length and colors, I SPY is a great way to talk about colors! This is our time to not only learn but to get our kids to talk with us and tell us what they think about the books we read or their experiences with what our weekly topic is.

Building everlasting friendships!

friendsWe aren't all about academics here, this is sometimes a child's first opportunity to socialize and play in a structured environment with other children their age.  We understand that it takes nurturing, teaching and time to teach children how to interact appropriately with other people, their age and adults.  We treat every child as an individual and respect their differences we model appropriate behavior and interaction for them and when needed we will support them as they learn to build and maintain relationships with their friends in school.

Encouraging Creativity

Daycare CreativeOne thing we know for sure is every child has an imagination! Encourage your child to be creative!  Check out these ideas for the Fall Season.

Collect fallen leaves in the yard and create a fall collage.  Can you create an animal with your leaves?  Our After school class did this last year and their animal creations out of fall leaves was AWESOME!

Collect fall leaves and paint them then press them to a blank page to see the leaf stamp.  Let your child mix colors and create a Leafy masterpiece!
Use your dry pumpkin seeds from your pumpkin carving.  Paint the seeds (or don't paint the seeds!) then create a fall picture with the seeds!
